A Few Fixes and Additional Features for CRE Loaded Web Site

Online video rental service web site featuring a video and member database utilizing CRE Loaded eCommerce System.

• Create cron job to back up site/database daily (or any other ideas for a good back up system?)

• Web site owner had approx. 500 existing members when we launched the new site around Jan 1st. A script was designed to send all members an email announcing the new site, (new site has a member login feature) and each were given a randomly generate password. My client requires that every new member use a credit card to buy their initial membership, so that they have that information on file to charge late fees if necessary. After the initial onsite credit card transaction (actually using PayPal Pro) then they are allowed to use PayPal from then on. From my client… “One thing I did wonder was how do members update their credit card when it is expiring/expired. There is no space on the account info to do that on their end. Do I get some kind of a reminder to send to them to update it. I find that many times a member who hasn't rented for months/years will rent with PayPal but I don't have a recent credit card on file, so if they don't return the video, I won't be able to charge them for overdue/replacement fees.” My idea was that the system would detect when the cards expiration date is and prompt them to only pay by credit card (requiring they update it) similar to how it’s done with a new member. However, my client had a good point/concern…“The idea for the credit card sounds great, but will the system automatically pick up on the fact that their credit card has expired and send them a message? The only problem I see is that with all the members already accessing the site because of the new passwords sent to them, there may not be a credit card on file in the system since they are using PayPal from the start.” We are open to any ideas you have for a solution to this issue.

• The admin area also has a function for charging late fees that is currently not working properly, this needs to be fixed and we can think about and discuss the options for charging late fees. Such as – if the late fees are charged though admin, is the system actually using their credit card details that are stored in admin, or somehow charging through PayPal Pro? With my client’s previous web site, it was completely necessary that she have the clients actual credit card number on file to charge late fees, I would like to be clear on whether that’s necessary with the current system?

• My client would eventually like to set up a place for MEMBERS ONLY to buy Used DVD’s. My thoughts are that we can add a product category titled Used DVD’s and add them similarly to how rental videos are added, the difference is that we don’t want this category to be listed in the left column, as the other videos are. I would link to the category page from the Members Only drop down menu or just add a link to the page from the Member Fun page. The issue here is that these videos get shipped to someone and stay forever, there would be no pending status, etc. as they would never be returned.

• We’d like to also set up a 14 day free trial promotion, that can be turned off and on. The 14 day free trial will involve creating a member account without buying membership, and after those 14 days the account will be on a renew status or something, and the user will need to login and buy membership?

• We’d also like to build a custom function that would allow changes made in the content editor to take place either instantly when saved (as they are now) or by date. For example, my client makes changes to the site at the first of every month, would be nice that we didn’t have to be working on those at midnight on the last day of the month!

• In the Content Manager Editor, when you click on the Insert/Edit Image icon, you’re given the option to upload an image from your local computer, the system will allow you to browse and select an image for upload but does not actually upload the image. In the past I have gotten an https error where I have to select yes or no and then it just was really slow and never did upload the image? It’s important to have this working.

• Need one special font color added to the text color palette in the product editor.
