Checkout Transition Page

I am looking for a solution to the long page load time that customers experience from the time they click on the buy now button to when the Paypal page actually displays. Sometimes this can take anywhere from 8-12 seconds and it is long enough that people abandon the page before getting to PayPal.

I am interested in solutions to either streamline the page load time or create a transition page that would display some wording like "You are now being directed to PayPal for your secure payment...thank you for holding" with maybe an icon or bar that shows the page loading until Paypal opens up.

Please send me any ideas or alternate solutions to accomplish this. I always leave excellent 10 feedback for a job done well.
