Seeking import of data into Access 2000 table from Excel worksheet. I have attached a zip containing a sample import file and a sample destination database.
Fields in the Excel worksheet have equivalent names to fields in the Access table. I need an interface (form) in Access that will provide the user with the ability to select (browse to) and read this file, evaluate the contents, then insert the data into the table in Access. The data does not need to be displayed in the Access form.
Upon attempting to import, the "evaluate" process (previously mentioned) should import all good records or fail completely in the event that any of the RequestDates are null, along with an error message specifiying RequestNumbers corresponding to the nulls. Also, if the data in the RequestComment is greater than 255 characters, then it should truncate anything beyond 255. This needs to be done in code/on the fly - can't be done using additional tables, etc. because this data (along with other fields not included in this example) need to be inserted into the staging table at the same time. Basically this means, this exercise/project is a subset of the real process.
