Below is a mockup image of the changes required. The numbers correspond to the tasks needed.
See arrow 1: Left sidebar, "Previous Posts", to have every single post made for the last 12 calendar months. An indicator in the previous posts area (a small arrow on the left of postname pointing at that post) that shows which post you are viewing. see: [login to view URL]
See arrow 3: Collapsible years 2005, 2004 etc that include all the posts for that year. Clicking on that year expands and shows all the posts within. Selecting a link in the expanded year will show the same indicator arrow as the sidebar does above. Once the user is browsing in these year groups, the year should stay expanded until 1) the user leaves the page, 2) selects another year or 3) selects a post within the last 12 months.
See arrow 2: At the top of the page below the banner there should be static frame that acts like a toolbar and does not scroll when the main blog body pane scrolls - it should have "next post" and "previous post " arrows. I want one blog post per page like pages of a book. Again next/previous are blogger APIs "About" will link to the Blogger Profile details ([login to view URL]) or any other static HTML page "Search" should use the Google AJAX Search API [login to view URL] with appropriate colors (same as links on main page)
Finally, I am no template guru. After months of work it now behaves the way I want it to and seems to work well. A quick code review and comments/changes needed too. It isn't very large.
