Car Operating System Linux Based

I need a car operating system. I envision that this Dash board program will sit on a stripped down Linux OS. This OS will only boot into one program that will be the dashboard of a car. This should be a very easy version of Linux, no logon screens, no messing with the file system. The emphasis should be place on stability, speed, usability in that order. That is why I suggest piecing together parts of Linux to make this OS, it is very stable, very fast. And it should be relatively easy for someone to write a C program that sits on top of Linux, and leverage its attributes.
