We're looking for a Silverlight application developed in C# which will be used as a data-entry form for a hierarchy of SQL tables. There are three tables in the hierarchy:
The basic UI for the form will consist of a tree-view on the left of the screen. Each node in the tree-view will consist of a record from one of the SQL tables. As a particular node in the tree is selected, the values for the corresponding node will appear on the right. The values on the right, along with being displayed, will also be able to be modified. A Save button on the right will be used to trigger the update process. There is no need to be able to create new nodes.
There are between 3 and 5 fields for each node, with a minimum of validation. By that, I mean only that a date string is a date, a number string is a number, etc. Nothing sophisticated is required.
The application needs to be architected using the MVVM pattern. We prefer using the MVVM Light framework for this (it's free), but we're open to other suggestions. We expect that commanding and data binding will be used to communicate between the view and the view model. In other words, there should be a bare minimum of code in the view's code behind. The database on the back end will be SQL Express. We'll provide a sample database to the successful bidder.
Answers to some questions I have received:
1. There is no need to be able to add/delete records. The purpose of the app is simply to display the values that are already in the database and be able to modfy and save any desired changes. In case it matters, the data is originally coming from a completely different source, one over which I have no control. So being able to make changes is sufficient functionality.
2. There is no need to consider security. The data will be accessed through the current user's identity, so consider that the connection string has an 'Integrated Security=SSPI' attribute in it.
