Although there is nginx as an option, I think that what you need will be more efficient handled by squid. I can work this out for you in a couple of hours. Document the solution and help you test it out. I have long time experience working with Squid, DNS and Linux administration in general.

As you can see from my reviews I have already completed other jobs with squid. I will provide you with the configuration needed to configure squid to forward the url you want to another proxy server. Squid will be configured in transparent mode. I'll provide you the required iptables command to redirect your traffic to the squid proxy server. Please note that you can use it only with HTTP and not HTTPS traffic this way -- If you require HTTPS traffic redirection we should use the new ssl bump feature of squid. let me know if you need this to work with https and I'll provide you with more details.

Hi, I'd like to check I understand your requirements first. You have Ubuntu box running Squid and you want the web traffic going from the box to either go directly or via a second proxy server? Or is it a different client PC/laptop which talks to the Ubuntu Squid server? The best way to decide whether to send traffic to a proxy server or not is usually so called Proxy Auto-Config (PAC) file. This feature is configured in your browser which will then decide if it needs to talk to your Squid proxy or not. You should be able to use this if you want to do this in a browser as not all applications support PAC. It also depends on how much control you have over the browser configuration. Please let me know if you want to discuss this and if PAC file can potentially satisfy your requirements. I can do both PAC and squid configuration, but I need to know which of these two options will be acceptable and viable. Thanks, Rob
