New Chrome Extension – Retrieval of information from External Systems
We require an extension developed that
a. Will not be publicly available - i.e. its an internal company extension - we'll list it on the Google web store - just not publically
b. Will be used on a limited number of web sites, hence via the manifest we will list the sites we wish it to work on
c. If on said site it finds on a page a <span id=”PCI-JAL-XYZ”> … </span>; There could be many on a page or none or one occurance; Hence it needs to use “PCI-JAL-“ as the match prefix, and then XYZ in this example is the ID that will be needed. So other examples could be (hence why the extension will need to use regular expression I assume) <span id=”PCI-JAL-XYZ”>, <span id=”PCI-JAL-12345”>, <span id=”PCI-JAL-88888875gjd03”>
d. It then needs to
a. Create a HTTP POST of
i. url: {The url the user is on}
ii. id: {The id from above (i.e. XYZ)]
iii. Their extension options access “key”
1. This needs to be on the options screen of the extension and allow the user after installation of the extension to aid their personally allocated “user-key” (this is effectively used to authenticate/identify the user)
e. This Post
a. if returns anything other than HTTP Status code 200 = stop
b. if returns HTTP Status code 200 then render the returned HTML in a slide down overlay on the web site at the position of the span.
i. So the span is normally nor rendering any content i.e. at page generation it will be <span id=”PCI-JAL-XYZ”></span>
ii. If content is returned from the HTTP POST then a small icon/tag should be visible saying “info…” – a nice graphically curved icon/tag.
iii. On mouse over of the icon it slides down a panel to show the HTTP POSTs returned HTML
1. The panel should auto-size so its big enough to show all HTML returned but no more (i.e. it could be small covering just a little bit of the page or a sizeable part of the page.
f. The url for the HTTP POST?
a. This should be configurable in the extension before it is packed
g. For development this can just be a set of static HTML pages on the developers machine – no server side application returning dynamic information is needed.
h. The developer agrees that all IPR to this extension will reside with us.
Delieverable should be the manifest and the [login to view URL] file - we can test etc, and will do the submission to the Google Web Store.
