Constant Current Pulsed Power Supply
The project will consist of two separate projects to provide a pulsed constant current ouptut. We will need the projects designed as well as PCB board designed and Gerber files provided to us. As part of the project, we will also need any schematics and any software designed for the micro-controller. If a micro-controller is needed, the Arduino is preferred.
The first project will be a constant current supply based on a linear regulator. The regulator will need to provide a constant current to a pulsed load which will consist of 1mS ON and 9mS OFF. The regulator must control the output voltage control the current to [url removed, login to view] with a maximum output voltage of 12V and output current of 3A. The actual current during the ON time must be displayed on a digital amp meter. There must also be a method for the user to set the current.
The second project is a system must be able to produce a constant current pulsed output up to 3A with a resolution down to 0.01A. The output pulses will be 1mS ON and 9mS off with an output voltage of up to 12V to reach the selected output current. The system will be in control of the pulsing output. There should be a method provided for the user to select the desired current, and the system will display either the set current or the actual current being supplied. Due to the pulsing output with only a short ON period, the system must be able to control and/or adapt to the pulsing output to keep output current constant during the ON time of each pulse. This will probably require the need for some type of micro-controller. It may also require the use of some type of programmable voltage/current regulator. Further information will be provided later on the user interface and input methods. This will most likely consist of a display, and membrane switches.
Background should consist of electrical engineering knowledge, including power supply design, as well as knowledge of the Arduino. As part of the project, we will be looking for proposals on the design of the system to assure that the proper implementation of the projects. We will also be available to answer any questions which you may have prior and during the design.
