Use your “sociological imagination” to analyze or explain a part of your personal life like: • A decision you have made or • A success you have had or • A failure you have had or • A positive or negative experience you have had When using your “sociological imagination” to explain a decision, success, failure or experience, you must consider how YOU are connected to the society/structure/environment that you are located in and how the society/structure/environment that you are located in has acted as a force or influence in your personal life. When thinking about society/structure/environment, this includes: 1) GREEFMC (government, religion, economy, education, family, media and culture). 2) Events in history of your social structure are like inventions, social movements, laws, tragedies, environmental catastrophes, economic depressions, political leaders, etc. 3) Social conditions of your social structure are like societal values and beliefs, classism, the rise of technology, geography, gender discrimination, racism, wage gaps, work trends, immigration, consumerism, policies, the political climate, drugs, population changes due to deaths and births, disease, crime, business trends, pollution, terrorism, etc. **This paper should AVOID psychological / individualized language or references, or anything that can be interpreted as an inner, mental, or emotional, analysis of your behaviors, decisions, or experiences.** Guidelines: 1) Paper should be typed and double-spaced (no hand-written papers will be accepted) 2) Paper should be AT LEAST three FULL pages long (1” margins on either side of paper, and no more than 12 point font and no less than 10 point font). 3) Paper should be detailed with examples, description and you should elaborate to fill the space. Evidence should come from personal cases or illustrations from your personal life. 4) Paper should cite a formal definition of sociological imagination. 5) Paper should have a clear beginning, middle and end and should be organized. 6) Paper should be thoughtful, illuminating a clear connection between YOU and STRUCTURE. 7) Paper should be well-written adhering to the highest standards of grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. Turn in a FINISHED PRODUCT. 8) Paper should be SOCIOLOGICAL. 9) Any plagiarized papers or content derived from the internet that is not cited in your paper will result in varying levels of academic discipline including failing the assignment, failing the class, and escalation to an Academic Honesty committee.
